Dr Meseguer was born in Murcia (Spain) in 1977. During his PhD worked in both the Instituto de Neurociencias de Alicante (Spain) and KULeuven (Belgium), where performed a study on the pharmacological and biophysical properties of the sensory TRP channels: TRPV1, TRPA1 and TRPM8. Later, he did a posdoc stay in the University of California at Berkeley (USA) where he worked on visual restoration in mice by using opto-chemicals. Currently, as Assistant Professor and PI at Universidad Miguel Hernández- Instituto de Neurociencias (Spain), he aims at defining morphological corneal nerve plasticity along with optically controlling its activity by using opto-chemicals.
AREAS OF EXPERTISE
- Peripheral sensory mechanisms involved in wetness detection, and their opto-pharmacological control.
- Plasticity and changes of ocular surface sensory nerves following injury, disease and ageing.
