BRAIN FACULTY AWARDED NASA GRANT
University of Houston BRAIN Faculty Member Dr. Saurabh Prasad has received a grant of $561 thousand from NASA for a project called “Knowledge Transfer for Robust GeoAI Across Space, Sensors and Time via Active Deep Learning”. The project, in collaboration with Purdue, will advance the frontier of deep active learning and knowledge transfer to facilitate seamless learning across a vast sensor web (e.g., transferring knowledge across imagery acquired from different platforms such as drones and satellites and different sensors such as passive-optical, SAR, and LiDAR).
NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters, Washington, DC, on May 4th, 2022, selected proposals for the Advanced Information Systems Technology Program (AIST-21) supporting the Earth Science Division (ESD). The AIST-21 awards aim to provide novel information systems and computer science technologies to reduce the risk, cost, and development time of NASA space b-based and ground-based information systems to significantly increase the accessibility and utility of science data, and to enable advanced observation measurements and Earth Science information capabilities. ESD’s Earth Science Technology Office (ESTO) evaluated 65 proposals out of 119 applicants and awarded 28 proposals within 2 years of performance (Project Selections). Dr. Prasad’s project, which is one of the selected proposals, directly contributes to NASA’s vision of a Digital Twin of the Earth.
